I'm researching an idea, and I'd like to hear from people who run Shopify beauty, skincare and cosmetics brands.

No pitch. No sales call. Nothing to buy, because there's nothing for sale yet.

Who I am

I'm Ben Wadsworth, based in Lancashire. My background is in marketing, e-commerce, commercial strategy and data analysis. I hold an MBA from the University of Aberdeen and I'm a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.Lewin Research is the customer intelligence business I'm building. As I prepare to launch, I want to test the idea with the people it's meant to be usefulĀ for, rather than rely on my own read of what would help.

The idea I'm testing

Most Shopify brands are sitting on customer, order and product data with real growth in it, the kind that only shows up once you read the behaviour underneath the numbers.Here's the premise: use the data you already have to improve the marketing you already send. The idea is to analyse Shopify data to find the groups inside it: who's building a routine, who only buys on offer, who's drifted away, and which groups quietly matter most. Then a report showing where the opportunities are and what you could do next.I think that would be useful to beauty and skincare brands and this research is how I'm making sure.

What I'm asking

Answer five short questions, by email, about how you currently use your customer data. Answer in your own time. Short answers are exactly what I'm after.What I'm not asking for:

  • Your data. Taking part means answering questions, nothing more.

  • A Shopify login, or any kind of account access.

  • A sales pitch, now or later. If the idea turns out useful and you'd want to hear more, that's your call.

If you've had an email from me, it's because your brand fits the kind of business I think this could help. If you'd rather not take part, no problem at all. And if you'd like to be left alone, say so and you will be.

A note on data

You may be wondering: if this becomes a real service, would I be handing customer data to a stranger?No. The service is being designed so that never happens.If a brand ever chose to work with Lewin Research, it would remove all personal details (names, emails, phone numbers, addresses) before anything is shared. I'd work only from de-identified export data, linked by an anonymous ID. The brand keeps the key that connects it back to real people; I'd never see it. No Shopify login, no card or payment details, and nothing would move until a written data handling agreement had been signed.But to be clear: none of that applies to this research. Taking part involves no data at all.
